Vivid Con rec list so far--mostly Club Vivid because that's where my vidding heart lies )

And a few other recent vid gems )

There is also the matter of my inexpressible SQUEE to discover that Acceptable in the Eighties was played at Club Vivid this year. That pretty much made my decade :)

As much as I have enjoyed my summer romances with True Blood, Leverage and Warehouse 13...I am GLAD for my fall shows to come back on! I think I'm going to do my usual wide watch for the first few weeks and then weed out the newbies that aren't worth the time.

[Poll #1453725]

But I've got a lot of new books on deck to read, and I've also been considering netflixing SG1/Weeds/Moonlight/Arrested Development, so we'll see how long it takes for my ambitions for pop culture consumption to cave once I get all busy like.

So excited for True Blood tonight and new Vividcon vids (once they all finish downloading *g*)!!!

In the meantime...linkspams!

Cool new things I am excited about )

And some fun nerdy things )

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I promise :)

Catching up type stuff, state of various fandom interests, and other blather )

Enough tl;dr for now! There is a ginormous vids/bigbang/fanart recs post to follow shortly, wheeee!

The first draft of my SC vid is ready for beta so I'm taking a break to check in with all my lovely flist.

In TV!land...I'm so excited for True Blood season 2! Just mainlined all of season 1 last week on Netflix and it was delightful Southern Gothic crack. All the ladies in our new neighborhood love the show so I've got a gang of middle-age Texan mama's to watch the new season with, w00t!

I'm also way excited for new Leverage soon. Bring on the geektastic Aldis Hodge and crew!

Also really enjoying the mindless joy of So You Think You Can Dance. Now somebody needs to make a fictional dance show for me. With the campy joy of Glee and the random bursting into dance of HSM, and lots of fun music and different dance styles. Okay, Hollywood--make it happen!

Also in movie!land...I've now seen Star Trek TWICE and adored it both times. Also saw T4 with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] einaphets and was totally impressed--way better than I expected based on all the snarky critics.

Very excited about this glimpse of the new V!

Also planning on seeing Up, HP6, Transformers and GI Joe at some point this summer :)

And in music!land...just devoured the They Might Be Giant's kiddie albums, which were a total blast.

I'm also dl'ing several new albums right now: Au Revoir Simone, Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Kasabian, Marilyn Manson, Peaches and Phoenix. Yay for new tunes!

What about you guys? Rec me books, music, movies, tv, anything!

So [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 is pretty much a stellar vidder all the time. I basically watch everything regardless of whether I'm familiar with the source/fandom. Imagine the delight and squee when I saw a BSG vid by Nicky pop up on the flist. And true to my expectation, it both pleases and sparkles.

Go watch: Slow Down Ghandhi

It has [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's trademark gorgeous editing and it covers some really awesome meta about the abuse of authority on BSG.

It's a very compelling POV to explore the show from, especially since the working class doesn't get much narrative privilege on the show and when it does it comes from problematic characters like Gaius, Gaeta and Zarek. From the vidder notes:

"The intended focus is twofold: (1) The ruling elite as a dynasty born into itself, dangling Earth in front of the workers as a means of maintaining power; (2) The ruling class forming an inexplicable alliance with the Cylons - at least it must seem inexplicable to the proles, who were never privy to the elevated personal dramas of the elite - and the hubristic expectation that the proles will simply accept this and fall into line."

So go watch and squee and leave appropriately drooling comments.

Mr BQ and I will be going to see the finale at the Lake Creek Alamo theatre in Austin, if any of my flisters felt like joining us (nudge nudge to [livejournal.com profile] einaphets and [livejournal.com profile] gypsy_sally).

BSG 4.19: in which I still love Sam the smartypants and Kara the amazing and am optimistic about the awesomeness of the finale next week )

Oh, and I'm avoiding whatever spoilers Katee apparently just leaked about the finale, so please don't mention anything from there :)

Even though my girl Kara got voted out, I'm still enjoying the heck out of Fandom March Madness.

Go vote for Barney and Chuck and Jon Stewart and Booth and Dean and Mal and Spike and Veronica!!!

boomqueen: (BSG - Kara - LOLZ I win!)
This is the kind of stuff that I LOOOOOVE in fandom. You can vote for your favorite characters in different comedy, drama, scifi and teen fandoms (and when you don't recognize fandoms/characters, you can just click a bunch of random buttons, woohoo!). Then the steel cage madness will ensue!

My girl Kara is hardcore pwning for BSG fandom. CJ Cregg and Josh Lyman are really close. Bret is beating my boy Jemaine by a mere handful of votes. Faith is getting whupped by Buffy and Spike. Logan and Weevil are both getting spanked by Veronica. And WHERE are the Sam girls? Dean is totally beating him right now?!?

By popular request:

T-shirt version of Mr BQ's toaster love cartoon for sale over at zazzle.com

I'll upload more of the cylon cartoons to zazzle once the Mr cleans them up.

Happy BSG-nerd-shirting everyone!

Zazzle just pulled the shirt because someone claimed copyright/intellectual property rights on the image, WTF. Nobody else drew that besides S so maybe NBC/Uni is claiming intellectual property rights to the IDEA of cylons? I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS DUMBASSERY.

The Mr and I are still catching up on Season 5 of Stargate Atlantis, slowly but surely, and tonight's viewing afforded me a surprise cameo by one of my favorite lesser known actresses: Janina Gavankar.

I first saw her in the Microsoft test project for a search engine with an actress providing dialogue/feedback as part of an interactive interface: www.msdewey.com . Working with the sexy librarian/dominatrix theme, Ms Dewey would help you narrow down your search terms and crack the whip (literally) if you were taking too long or goofing off.

Then I saw Ms Gavankar as the beautiful and sassy Papi on the L Word and I fell massively in girlcrush. We'll just handwave the decision to pick an actress of Indian descent to play a Hispanic character and focus on the awesomeness of Papi. She was sexy, outspoken and completely irresistable. She was great as a rival for Shane (see icon) and she was great as a character in her own right.

So, imagine my delight when she pops up as a random military extra, Sargeant 'Dusty' Mehra, in a highly femslash-friendly all-female away team on SGA. Loved it!

Cut for mini-picspam of Janina Gavankar )

Also lovedlovedloved The Shrine. What a fabulous episode. I love this show!!!
