So excited for True Blood tonight and new Vividcon vids (once they all finish downloading *g*)!!!

In the meantime...linkspams!

Cool new things I am excited about

Two Alice in Wonderland updates!
One by the SyFy channel, which can be cheesy but I loved Tin Man so I’m more than willing to give it a shot
One by Tim Burton, which looks INSANE and awesomesauce.

Riverworld, also from SyFy: a trippy Orpheus-esque journey to the land between life and death featuring one of my favorite nerdy weirdos, Alan Cumming, and one of my favorite shirtless sci-fi hotties, Tahmoh Penikett (of Battlestar Galactica) [based on sci-fi book series by Farmer]

Being Human, a new vampire/werewolf/ghost=roommates show from BBC America. We don’t get BBCA on cable in the Great White North, so I might have to look for bootlegs or wait till it comes out on video

Leviathan - New alternate history book by one of my favorite sci-fi authors Scott Westerfeld due out in the Fall. I think some of the male figures in my life might end be needing that for Christmas :)

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is getting turned into a graphic novel!

New supernatural YA by Francesca Lia Block!

Jennifer’s Body, a feminist teen horror movie by Diablo Cody starring Megan Fox (yes, she’s trashy but she’s freakin hot!) and Amanda Seyfried (of Veronica Mars, woot!)

Whip It! A rollerderby movie, based on the YA book Derby Girl by Shauna Cross, and starring Drew Barrymore, Eve, Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis and Kristen Wiig sporting some truly awesome derby names. As discussed with [livejournal.com profile] sundancekid (Allison Chains), [livejournal.com profile] pyrex_11 (Hellville Dewey) and K (Rose Shred), my rollergirl name would be Rainbow Smite.

The new Fame! An update of the 70s dance movie classic full of shiny new dancers and other shiny things!

9! Amazing new dark animated sci-fi feature

Fun nerdy things

Joss Whedon and Co won a Hugo award for Dr. Horrible for “Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form”

How to Meet and Woo a Nerdy Girl by Liz of the Park Bench

Nerdy Wedding Cake Toppers from io9

20 Best and Worst Pets in Science Fiction by io9 – I completely agree about the awesomeness of Ampersand but I love Grr!

Being Human is so good. The first episode is a little slow, the second one's interesting but just alright, but the third won me over.

Yay, I'm glad to hear that it is as good as it sounds! I'll be sure to give it a few episodes to win me over too :)

They look so awesome A! There are few things in this world that make me as happy as badass ladies--whether they are scary as shit or just tearing it up on rollerskates :)

HAHA. I had a Han and Leia cake-topper (using small action figures - my husband even repainted Han's pants so they'd be black and look more like a suit!). AND we played the award ceremony march at our entrance into the reception. I could tell our fellow nerds by who recognized the music!

I hope Riverworld doesn't suck, since I have to watch it for Tahmoh.

Haha, that's awesome! We SERIOUSLY considered using the Imperial March as our processional song for the wedding, but our parents died a thousand deaths just considering it. (My hubby did sneak in some nerdy Final Fantasy classical music that no one recognized *g*). I'm jealous of your cake toppers though. They sound perfect!

OOOOOH, Riverworld looks good!

I am mixed on the Alice updates -- Alice is one of those stories where I feel like there is a definitive movie version in existence, so why make another? But I recognize I am alone in this. :p

(Also, psst, Allison Chains. ;)

gah, spelling fail. fixed now!

I bonded with the book version of Alice before any movie/tv adaptations (it's one of my mom's top three kids books so we read it a LOT as kids), and my imagination is pretty flexible as to what the characters are allowed to look like and what aspects of the plot should be included.

I have other source material that I am significantly less flexible about though! Like Bryan Singer's attempts to start a new reboot of Battlestar Galactica, based on the 70s series but with no connection to the recent series? Not allowed!
