So mainly 2009 will go down in history for me as the year we OMG-bought-a-freakin-house! But I did a bunch of other stuff too...

A year in ungodly quantities of media consumables!

Movies watched... )

TV watched )

Listened to a bunch of music )

And then I read some books...a little over 300 in 2009 )

Welcome to the fangirlish ramblings of [personal profile] boom_queen, formerly known as jcathm.  This journal is partially friends-locked. My vids and crack!poems are all open to everyone. I only lock posts with personal information. Feel free to comment and let me know a little about yourself if you want to be added :)

Go and watch it! FIREFLIES by [livejournal.com profile] talitha78. It is the cutest frakking thing on the planet and it will make your face and your heart explode with glee and awwwwww!

I hope everyone is having good holidays! I got the best vidding present ever: a shiny new 1 TB external hard drive, wheeeeeeeee!!! No more worrying about not having enough space for eps/clips for at least a few more months/fandoms :D

As promised ages ago, here are some of my favorite holiday songs.

It's equal parts goofiness (come on, guys, you KNOW me *g*), Crooner Christmas (courtesy of Mr BQ who looooves that stuff) and hippie/folky stuff (courtesy of my parents who are hippies and folk music nerds).

Tracklist and download link )

Also, thank you to everyone for the cards: to [livejournal.com profile] randomreader_05 for the sparkly star, to [livejournal.com profile] latentfunction for my lovely J2 haiku, to [livejournal.com profile] on_the_ground for the colorful festive card, and to [livejournal.com profile] wentastic and [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ (my Georgia girls!). I do so love snail mail :D

And belated ENDLESS LOOOOOOVE to everyone for all the delightful snowflake cookies. Thanks guys!

I had to wait until [livejournal.com profile] sundancekid had received her Christmas card before I could update to this layout.

Christmas cylon cartoon drawn by Mr. BQ for the amazing and lovely Al :D

It's been months since I made a vid recs post. [And what better what to proscrastinate on actually vidding than in rewatching recent faves for "inspiration"]

Vid Recs: Leverage, Psych, SPN, BSG, and True Blood )

J2 Fic and Podfic Recs )

Now your turn! Recs for me please :)

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup for hosting a fanvid love meme, as a complement to the fanfiction love meme making the rounds.

My thread is here if you are overwhelmed with the compulsion to say nice things about my vids/vidding :D

Happy words making the [livejournal.com profile] festivid'ing go that much more smoothly!

You guys, I'm so excited! I haven't gotten my assignment yet (and I am most certainly NOT compulsively checking my email to see if it has magically shown up in the least two minutes...) but I'll have it by Friday at the latest.

In the meantime, I've been listening through my iPod and floating ideas for all eight of the fandoms/sources that I offered. I've got at three to nine song ideas for each fandom now!!!

This has been such an awesome mental exercise for me as a vidder. I normally listen to music with my mental-visual filter firmly in place for the fandoms I have vidded for/plan to vid for (BSG, SPN, Buffy-verse, SGA, and Dollhouse). It has been unexpectedly liberating AND exciting to float through all of my music with eight new fandoms in mind. I know I'll narrow it down to one fandom once I get my assignment, but now I'm really excited about all the possibilities for new vids. Particularly the ideas I've had for movie vids, because the source footage is short enough that I could make ALL of those vid bunnies if my energy/muse/time all balances out.

I'm just crazy excited to be this excited about vidding again. I've had a slump for the last couple of months where several bunnies have been bumping around in my head and none of them have quite had the urgency/juice to make it to a completed product.

[livejournal.com profile] festivids fucking rocks my muse so far!!!

ETA: I have my assignment and it is aaaaaaaawesome! *FLAIL*

Dear Festividder:

Thank you so much for taking on one of my prompts! As you can probably tell by my requests, I'm a big fan of goofy, happy vids from goofy, happy fandoms.

I'm cool with all kinds of music styles (though I admit to favoriting upbeat and/or fast-paced music). A few favorites music artists of mine: any pop from the 1980s (Erasure and Depeche Mode in particular), Madonna, She Wants Revenge, Cake, Beck, Tori Amos, Muse, Goldfrapp, Nine Inch Nails, Postal Service, Fischerspooner, VAST, The Faint, Metric, and Zero 7. Just some ideas--seriously, go with whatever moves you.

And for tone, though I love goofy/happy, I'm happy with any kind of theme or pairing or mood that strikes you. I'm a slasher, so I definitely won't complain if that's where your muse takes you. I really can't think of anything you can do with any of these sources that I would totally hate, so go nuts!

Use/don't use my ideas, as you like. If you have fun making it, I'm totally sure that I will love it. Thank you for tackling any of these crazy mini-fandoms :)

My requests: Willow, How to Steal a Million, Court Jester, Cry-Baby, Flight of the Conchords, Neverending Story, Labyrinth and Hackers )

Thank you and happy [livejournal.com profile] festivids to all!

Supernatural 5.09 )

OMFG how awesome was that episode! )

I've been having a hard time watching TV synchronously with when it airs, so I feel like I've been missing out on a lot of the post-episode squee for several of my favorites. But! I have been watching stuff and keeping my eye on the flist.

Stuff on my current TV watch list--Castle, sytycd, V, Glee, Bones, Supernatural and Dollhouse )

And in other upcoming exciting fandom news...I'm insanely stoked for [livejournal.com profile] festivids (like [livejournal.com profile] yuletide but for vids in small/under-represented fandoms instead of fic). I submitted a bunch of TV and movie recommendations that I would love to see anyone make vids of. And I'm excited to snag someone else's prompt myself. I've kind of needed a prompt/challenge to get my vidding juices going again, and this one looks delightful.

Other upcoming challenges that I will not be doing myself but am still insanely excited about: [livejournal.com profile] j2_everafter is back!!!

Oodles and oodles of delightful Disney-fied J2 awesomeness. This is the challenge that brought us such classics as Keepsake--omg best fucking fic EVARRRRR by [livejournal.com profile] indysaur, The Incredibles AU by [livejournal.com profile] ignited, and the cracktastically delightful Cinderella update by [livejournal.com profile] obsessed1 and [livejournal.com profile] juice817. Think of all the new gems to come!

In search of episode reactions to Epitaph! What did you guys think?

Brief thoughts behind cut )

Just had a delightful day of live fangirling with [livejournal.com profile] sundancekid, so now it's time for the weekly recap!

Glee, in which I really really love anything where people randomly burst into song )

***

Warehouse 13, in which I squee over the Hogans )

***

Supernatural, in which EPIC bro angst is epic and I hope god is a woman )

***

Vampire Diaries, in which I still think Damon is hot but I need room on my tivo for Flash Forward so….too bad angsty vamps )

***

Bones, in which I love on Booth's wacky socks and the schmoop factor )

***

Now I'm going to dig back into my re-read of Charles De Lint's Someplace To Be Flying--amazing urban fantasy incorporating a lot of Native American mythology, think American Gods but written long beforehand--while my download of Epitaph finishes. Need to get all caught up before Dollhouse season two starts!
boomqueen: (Default)
Vivid Con rec list so far--mostly Club Vivid because that's where my vidding heart lies )

And a few other recent vid gems )

There is also the matter of my inexpressible SQUEE to discover that Acceptable in the Eighties was played at Club Vivid this year. That pretty much made my decade :)

As much as I have enjoyed my summer romances with True Blood, Leverage and Warehouse 13...I am GLAD for my fall shows to come back on! I think I'm going to do my usual wide watch for the first few weeks and then weed out the newbies that aren't worth the time.

[Poll #1453725]

But I've got a lot of new books on deck to read, and I've also been considering netflixing SG1/Weeds/Moonlight/Arrested Development, so we'll see how long it takes for my ambitions for pop culture consumption to cave once I get all busy like.
