I'm ALL for more sci-fi/fantasy/supernatural TV shows, believe me.

But Vampire Diaries, really? I remember reading that as a teen and even at the time it was like the teen vamp equivalent of a really trashy romance novel--it was not the most amazing writing and the melodramatic angst was over the top, but it was kind of fun because of that.

I really can't imagine it translating well to a TV series.

Although in the terrible terrible clip that I watched on Spoiler TV, Ian Somerhalder (previously of Smallville and Lost) was damn good looking as the naughty vampire brother. Yummmm...

All in all, I'm with [livejournal.com profile] sundancekid. I know everyone is riding the vampire-mania of Twilight in the entertainment industry, but how about some hot werewolves or hot zombies or something else.

Or really, I would just be happy with more supernatural romance stories/books/shows/movies where the sexy, dangerous supernatural character is the female protagonist and SHE has to figure out how to navigate her strength and sexuality around a mortal man (like Blood and Chocolate!!!).

I'm pretty good on scared/weak mortal girls and sexy/dangerous supernatural boys for right now ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I saw the preview today and, agreed, the male leads are hot but I kept expecting Bella to come in whining and apologizing for being a female with a sex drive at any moment.

I'm going to look into Blood and Chocolate though.

How about an unapologetic strong sexual female vampire for a fricking change!!

Haha, I'm just watching S1 of True Blood right now, so your icon is made of scary funny awesome!

Blood and Chocolate is pretty awesome. I wish the teen girls at my library would latch onto that one they way they've all latched onto Twilight...

Exactly. Sometimes it really feels like BtVS didn't happen at all: Females are still the "weaker" sex, supernatural or no. Bleh.

It's not like there aren't ANY strong awesome supernatural female characters--I would just like MORE of them. Better ratio, that's all :)

Better ratio would be needed in all genres, and things, come to think of it, but yeah, you're right.

how about some hot werewolves

Which would STILL be riding the Twilight train, after all, so you'd think someone would pick up on it. Though the viz effects can be very tragically horrible for that, so that's probably why not, but yeah. Way to beat on a dead vampire-horse there, CW.

True, I like reading about werewolves a helluva a lot better than watching movies about them because so far the effects/makeup have been very short of eye candy. Sexy werewolves is much better as an abstract concept/visual in my mind ;)

I am a little curious about how zombies can be hot. But my zombie awareness is very firmly rooted in World War Z, so.

I was thinking more of ironic-hot than hot-hot. Like in Zombie Blondes or Generation Dead, where being undead is the vapid, popular kid thing to do. Think more zombie!Heathers or zombie!meangirls, and less Dawn of the Dead or World War Z.
