A week in TV: SPN, Lost and BSG

SPN:

Let me just say that I TOTALLY fell for the red herring: I thought the doctor lady was going to be the siren, and while I am still very glad for the spontaneous exhibitionist office!sex up against the blinds, I am really glad it didn't go down like that.

Because HOW AWESOME was it to have the gender assumption subverted. I know that the gayness of the boys feels like canon to most of fandom, but it's a whole other world to see it played out on your screen.

And what did Dean need/want? A BROTHER. Someone to love him unconditionally and look up to him. Even without the awesome slashyness between Vic and Dean (and it WAS awesome), I just love that the show is always ready to step up for the potency and reality of the emotional bond between Sam and Dean.

Fuck that was awesome. For an episode that I went into pre-emptively wincing about gratuitous strippers, it turned out much more subtle and interesting.






Lost:

I'm way more interested in the awesome time travel stuff happening on the island than the intrigue between/amongst Ben and the Oceanic Six.

I love the 'when are we' riff as they explore the island in different times. I'm absolutely loving Sawyer's man pain. I'm totally into Daniel and the other freighters. I'm even enjoying Juliet (never thought that would happen!).

Nothing like the mindfrakkery of some good time warping :)







BSG:

WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING TO MY SAMMY. If they're going to kill him off, they better make it better than some random stray shot from a marine.

Everyone else is having awesome storylines! Gaeta's last supper with Gaius in his head was amazing. Kelly got to have a fascinating internal debate and breakdown over his loyalties in the memorial hall that was totally compelling. Chief played spider-monkey all over the ship and saved the day with the FTL. Roslin had her gravitas in full force with the 'coming to END YOU' speech. Kara was still kicking ass and taking names (I loved her knocking out the marine taking a piss to steal his gun!) And they brought back Romo FTW!

So. In an episode of so many greats and all time highs, what they hell are they doing with my bleeding Anders and panicked Kara? I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED NOW.

ETA: apparently the Canadian preview for next week has some Sam in it, so whatever happens at least I know that they're going to be some answers.

Lost is entertaining right now. I find it totally random and odd that all of a sudden we are following new characters and that the old standards that I thought would always be around aren't even in all episodes. When did Miles, Daniel, Juliet and Desmond sneak in and become leads that carry episodes and I don't even mind it? I've kinda stopped over thinking it because now that they are skipping through time, all bets are off and there is absolutely no way to know what the hell is going on. I am just sitting back and being entertained (and perpetually confused). It's good to see Jin, poor boy is so confused! But I really don't buy that he was close enough to the island to go along for the ride but ok.

As for BSG, well my mind is blown, No doubt. I won't cry for you Gaaaeta. A stray bullet is a lame way to go for Sammy and makes me very unhappy. I hope he makes it. Did you not think that scene with Felix and Gaius was real? I thought it was his last rites thing. Of course all I could think about was the last time they were in a cell together and Felix tried to kill Gaius with a pen. I was thinking Chief was being Gollum :) It was so good to see Laura finally wake up and want to fight back. Kara and Lee were so badass and it was great to see Romo especially when he developed a conscious. I just saw him this week as an apparition on another show. Oh yeah, it was Leverage. Awesome! In the press pics I've seen I didn't see Sam but there were many so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him!

Exactly! I still love all the older characters too, but I'm really surprised at how much I'm enjoying the newer ones right now.

I'm not trying to think to hard about 'what it all means' right now either and just enjoying the ride of craziness and awesome. Otherwise my brain might implode from trying to match up all the time details.

And yes--yay for Jin randomly popping back up!

And for BSG, I guess I'm kind of confused as to whether the convo between Gaius and Gaeta was real. The way that the shot transitioned from them talking to Gaeta in the airlock made me think it was in his head, but a lot of people read that as being real so I'm totally not sure. I'd be happier for Gaeta if that was real and he actually did get to have some kind of resolution/redemption with his mentor.

Haha for Chief being Gollum! He definitely was crouching and running around alot. That would make the FTL his 'precious'? ;p

I'm glad Laura was back in fight-mode too. I completely understand her whole 'I've fought for the human race all this time so just let me have some time to myself to die in peace' attitude, but Mary McDonnell is just so badass when she is doing the mighty ruler role.

Romo was on Leverage? A lot of people on my flist are really digging that (plus I have a carry-over crush on Christian Kane from Angel), so I think I'm going to try to start/catch up on that soon.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Sam too, although now that I've seen the Canadian promo where he's talking to Kara in the sickbay I'm pretty sure that he'll be around for at least a little longer. I'm okay with RDM killing off my favorite characters as long as their deaths are interesting and do justice to their character arc as a whole.

I'm with ya on Supernatural. Great brotherly love episode. I thought it was going to be campy like last week's gym epi (lol) but it went the other direction and got serious and emotional. Good stuff.

And BSG? omfg was it fantastic tonight. There is a Space promo for next week out and about that might interest you. I don't know if you do promos so I won't comment but it's out there. I think SASA has it posted already.

Dude the brotherly love stuff was awesome. I really love how much emotion and connection those guys (and the writers) pack into the show.

And BSG was sooooooo badass!!! I saw the Canadian promo for next week so I'm feeling a little bit better about things. Like I said to nebakanezer, given that this is BSG and there are mountains of angst and lots of character death, I'm okay with RDM killing off some of my favorite characters as long as it does justice/makes sense for their character. (still crossing my fingers that he'll be around a little longer than one more episode though!)

Dude. All I know for sure is that TPTB wanted to give Sam a reason for Michael's nasty little neck scar after his accident last year. You don't write in a reason for a scar unless the character is alive at least long enough to HAVE a scar. Our boy is not dead yet. And hopefully, he'll survive the whole frakking series. *clings to Sammy, terrified that Helo is doomed*

I'm much happier for Gaeta if the G/G scene was real! I just got confused because the way the shot transitioned for them to Gaeta in the airlock looked it was trying to say it was a daydream. But if he really got to have that awesome resolution/redemption with his mentor and crush before he died, then I am REALLY happy for Gaeta. It's more resolution than most characters on BSG get before they die!

I really kind of loved Kara taking care of Sam and trying to carry him singlehandedly to sickbay. And thanks for the link to the Canadian promo! I'm feeling much more reassured after seeing that :)

Yeah, later I thought that he must survive this because there's no way he can die like that.. it's too simple and he'd deserved a more important scene or reason.. :(

I agree: he has to be around for at least a little longer, and there's no way they are going to just kill him off and not explain it. I just panic sometimes when the show ends all abruptly like that without resolving major plot points like what is happening to my favorite characters!
