The Joys of Challenges and Lurking

I love those periodic times/challenges that each fandom gets really excited about. I remember anticipating each new round of
vm_library and
vm_santa. Now I get all worked up waiting for the VividCon vids to release each year, or for another round of
spn_j2_bigbang.
I don't have many flisters who are very active in SPN/J2 fandom, so I mainly just read a lot of J2 and lurk in a few journals, but I am REALLY enjoying the squee and excitement right now over
j2_everafter. J2 AUs are my favorite kind of fic to read right now and the prospect of dozens of new AUs (crackalicious DISNEY-themed ones, no less!) is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOMESAUCE.

Can't wait to read them all!

Date: 2009-01-07 07:43 pm (UTC)I know! I think it's mainly a difference of size/scope in fandoms. OTOH, I'm REALLY glad that BSG fandom is smaller because I have so many close friends and it's a much more cozy, intimate environment. And Supernatural fandom is so frakkin huge and overwhelming by comparison. But it also means that it has hundreds, if not thousands, of writers/vidders/artists on hand to create/participate in challenges and other fun fandom events.
I know I can't have it both ways, but I do kind of wish sometimes that BSG fandom could somehow produce as much activity/content as a large fandom but still stay as familiar and friendly.
