Vid recs (and a bit of angst)

Gorgeous new vids to rec y'all!
bop_radar just posted an AWESOME Gaius Baltar vid that really highlights both the humor and the evil of his ego-driven and schizophrenic character arc. Hip-hop vids ftw!
kiki_miserychic posted an AMAZING S4 VID to Handlebars by Flobots back in June that I am just now bonding with. It explores how power, need and duty corrupt both humans and cylons in season 4 through some absolutely brilliant lyrical interpretations and editing. This vid packed even more of a punch for me than
flummery's much-lauded use of Handlebars for a DW vid.
dayln03 has a beautiful season 1 Veronica Mars character vid that is both warm/fuzzy and aaaaaangsty. Pure awesomeness.

Gahhhh, I've been working on my current vid project pretty regularly for the week or so. And at first everything was clicking and I got really good feedback from one of my betas. But last night my muse was apparently partying at SOMEONE ELSE'S house, because I worked for four hours and I'm scrapping everything I added last night. Ugh. God bless my beta. It's REALLY hard hearing "this part just doesn't work as well as the first half", and I'm very happy with myself for just coping with my ego and working to see how they were right. But now I'm so damn frustrated!
This is combined with the guilt of knowing that I should be working on my Sweet Charity vids but I started this project first and I want to finish it...
Words of encouragement from the vidders/artists/creators on my flist? What do you do when you realize you're getting on the wrong track with a project and need to back up? I can't really work on a different vid because I don't have enough hard drive space for more than one project at a time. Any advice for getting my head back in the game?
ETA: thank heavens for my beta kicking my ass (and the support of my GORGEOUS flist) because I went back to the project this afternoon and I totally fixed/re-envisioned the part that wasn't working. I am SO GLAD to have other people kick my ass for me because I would be a total lazycakes otherwise...

I had to do a lot of shuffling and deleting of temp internet files to clear enough space to make two vids. But my point? Just looking at the first 30 seconds of new vid, inspired me to get past the rough spots in the first vid. I still love those thirty seconds to this day.
You'll do it!!! Sometimes, and this seems counter-intuitive, but sometimes a vid break is needed. Can you take a few days off working on it?

Date: 2008-10-27 06:32 pm (UTC)But one of the things I find that really stimulates me is to watch some of the episodes -- just soak in the source material, get a renewed feel for their voices and dialogue, etc. I suppose that could work with vids too, immersing youself in the visuals and just letting the vid idea percolate on the back burner while you have fun watching.
Barring that...sometimes you DO just need a break. I find going for a walk always throws some ideas up, while at the same time giving me a chance to relax.
Anyhow, I think I should go take my own advice now -- because I have about 12 WIPs languishing around at the moment, because I keep getting distracted by actual work. ;) Hang in there!

Date: 2008-10-28 03:12 am (UTC)I'm so glad to hear your vid is working out better now.
Ugh that's the worst feeling ever, working so hard on it only to realize that you know it's just not what you want. So frustrating. But yay for ass-kickings! ;)

Date: 2008-10-28 05:38 am (UTC)I realised I was on the wrong track with 'Clint' with two days to go. My beta told me to redo about a third of it and I have never vidded so fast or so desperately before EVER. Total mania, I had, and absolutely zero perspective.
Thanks for the rec! And I'll have to check out those others too. :)
