BSG 4.something - Escape Velocity

This episode just confused the hell out of me. It was disjointed and all over the place--split between too many different character arcs and sub-plots.

Good stuff:

Chief--sorry, SPECIALIST--Tyrol needs me to protect him and cuddle him. Seriously.

His storyline was the only part of this ep that really got me. Well, that and Baltar's crazy God stuff.

The funeral at the beginning was AWESOMESAUCE. Especially in light of Galen's religious upbringing, and how that must mess with his head: performing a memorial service that he thinks he remembers but doesn't actually know if those memories are real. Whoaaaaaaaaa mindfrak.

So, do we think that Tyrol provoked Adama into demoting him because he's really that angry about his lot in life, in not getting Boomer and being stuck with Cally instead, or because he wanted to be demoted to remove his potential for sleeper/negligent sabotage from the deck? I could see it either way...

Watching Racetrack/Skull's raptor almost bite it really wowed me. With all the deaths lately I wasn't sure if they were going to make it.

James Callis sure is acting the shit out of Baltar right now. He's still just as crazy and squirrelly and self-serving as ever but I'm FASCINATED by him.

Not so good stuff:

NOT NEARLY ENOUGH KARA.

I'm over Roslin/Adama reading each other books in sickbay. I thought the first visual of Ellen/Caprica was cool, but it got way old by the third and fourth time they used that same visual transition.

Was it just me or was this one of the most casually girl-bashing eps so far? All the Cally!hating and harem!beating and random careless denigration of women. WTF show.

Bzuh stuff:

Why was my Sammy just hovering over Kara all concerned and/or creepy-like? What are you doing Sam!?!


...So, I totally agree with Alanna: Wonderful episode from a philosophical and political standpoint, but it needed more Kara. Hmph. Word.

That was all kinds of fucked up and I don't even know what to say. Ugh! I think Chief did it on purpose (making Adama demote him) because he's so conflicted about what he is. I don't think he is thinking of anyone else right now except himself. Maybe that is giving him too much credit. Maybe he really is just an asshole but I hope not. I would however believe that Tigh would remove himself if he thought for one second he was going to risk the lives of those around him and that's not something I could have said about him in season 1.

Sam was creepee the way he was watching Kara.

LOST was OMG so much more exciting this week than BSG. OMG I'm sorry did I just write that??? The horror!

I'm still unsure about whether the Chief got himself demoted on purpose or if he just exploded and had a tantrum because he's grieving or what. If there was a FRAKKING PODCAST available, I would consult that...

*grumbles about delay time on podcasts this season*

But I'll just wait for the next few eps and see how Chief's demotion plays out.

Sam was so creepy! Is he just watching her because he thinks she's a cylon too and he's looking for signs? Is it some kind of desperate romantic thing? WHAT DOES IT MEAN SAM.

I'm with you completely--Lost was way more exciting this week than BSG and that is just wrong! I love my Lost, and I'm happy when it kicks ass, but I need my BSG to rock my socks more!

seriously all i can think about is that Kara/leoben paint scene. (my gods, paintsex 2.0) leoben/Sam sandwich indeed. Except for the fact that Sam is kind of getting creepy on me. Like we haven't quite seen how being a cylon affects him except in a "OH MY GOD I'M A CYLON" way.

Tyrol broke me. I almost cried during that funeral service. The scene with Adama though was fraking nuts. Nobody has spoken that way with him and I loved it. I had my hands over my mouth the entire time.

I was ignoring the Baltar stuff until Roslin visited him and the scene was just so bizarre in an awesome way that by the end I was really digging prophet Baltar there.

Totally true. Other than the awesome battle scene stuff in the first ep, and the subsequent freaking out, we don't really know what/if/how Sam's potential sleeper programming works. All the other ones have had obvious hallucinations at this point, or just gone batshit crazy in Tory's case, so I'm kind of simultaneously excited and anxious about my Sammy!

That funeral service was hardcore. And the bar scene was just insane. Also, Tyrol should wear civvie clothes more often, yes/yes? That black suit with the pinstripe shirt was just made of YUM. And I kind of love how there is gray flecking through in the chief's hair right now.

This is such a beautiful, happy-making thought! I could seriously see Kara/Sam/Leoben being a new OT3 (though in a VERY different way from Kara/Sam/Lee) if this ep goes a certain way :)

so i don't know, i guess i agree with you but i feel like if i can't agree with the fans liking this episode 'cause i found it boring as hell.

I feel like i'm very simple and a bad fan (lol).. for me, no helo, no sharon, no anders and no kara = boooring as hell.. yes, i guess i should love the philosophical stuff but I realize that that it's not the reason why I watch the show.. I must be very superficial.. which kinda sucks..

And it's like i enjoy some Baltar but not SO MUCH as here.. it becomes boring for me. It's obvious we all see the show for very dfferent reasons.

I totally see your point. As much as I enjoy when the show has interesting things to say in an abstract/detached way, I care a lot more and ENJOY the show a whole lot more when my favorite characters are involved.

And this episode definitely suffered for lack of Kara as far as my enjoyment is concerned.

It's a lot harder to squee when you feel just kind 'meh' about most of the episode!

I was thinking about this last night as I was drifting off I think that Kara is in love with three men.

The normal vulnerable part of her is in love with Lee, because he really sees her and still loves her and is more of a 'soulmate' for her. But I think she is still filled with so much self loathing and hate to allow herself to have what she truly wants.

The part of her that is attempting to be normal is in love with Sam, because he's a good average guy that doesn't push her to hard. And that she can walk all over when the crazy comes without completely pushing away like she does with Lee. She's not as afraid of what will happen if Sam sees the what she considers the ugly side of her, because his love won't break her in the same way that Lees can. Which is way he was the 'safe' choice.

And the completely crazy, frakked up, Starbuck side of her is in love with Leoben. Because he's as crazy and twisted inside as she is. That part of her that her mother made.

Does any of that make sense. It's like there's a man for each part of Kara's personality.lol

I totally agree with the Kara in love with three men theory (and I think Katee has something really close to that idea at a few conventions too, so you're idea is fully supported *g*). Each guy definitely fits a part of her life/problems/personality/needs. Which is why it's so damn easy for me to multi-ship with her because I can see why she reaches out to each one. Regardless of whether it's a healthy decision or not...

I do not like my Chief (he will never be a specialist :( to me ) angry! Although he does it so well. There were so many thoughts going through my head about his motivation. I thought part of his Cally anger was for her leaving him when he's going through this mind frak. I really do think that he loved he even if she wasn't his true love (Boomer) and I never saw her as whiny she always seemed spunky to me. Plus the boiled cabbage smell was just mean lol not that any of them probably smell all that great.

Hmm I never thought of him wanting to get off the deck to prevent himself from possibly doing sabotage but it's a good thought. IMHO I think he was just distracted thinking about Cally and made a mistake. And really good point about the service. I don't think that anyone knows that Tory killed Cally and I think the Chief will be crazy violent pissed at her when he does find out. Mainly because he's so pissed at Cally right now for leaving him in his angst.

Is it weird that if I could pick any of the BSG boys and transport them into RL to be my boyfriend I would pick the Chief? He just does something to me. Sure the other guys are pretty but I think in the day to day they would drive me nuts. The Chief is the one I want all to myself in RL. lol

I want Sam/Leoben sandwich fic PLEASE!

Next week will be of so much hotness!!!!

Also Jane needs to keep the Buffy the hell away from my BSG thankyouverymuch. Because really the angsty S/M thing you had going this episode did nothing for me!

Also all I could link about during those Caprica/Ellen transitions was that that top was so not flattering to either of them. It made it look like they had sagging half-deflated water balloons over their skin cover ribs. eck.

yeah, I definitely think this is probably the biggest part of it. Even if he was provoking Adama intentionally, a huge chunk of it has got to be about his grief and his ongoing identity crisis.

Oh, wow, I am kind of overflowing with warm squishy happy feelings :)

There is actually a reason: now that I have the S3 DVDs I've been working on redo'ing that one to improve the clip quality (AND the timing/transitions because that was my very first vid and there are some kind of embarrassing mistakes in it...).

But I'm seriously all kinds of squee-ful that you remember and like that one. It's the vid bunny that got me to overcome my complete lack of vidding knowledge and dive in, so I have mixed feelings of nostalgia and *facepalm* about it. I had no idea it was the vid that made you de-lurk for the first time! *cheers*
