The crack!fic rec list has been updated! Dude, I can't believe how prolific and awesome BSG fandom is. I got mad love for all y'all. *HUGS*

My favorites of the moment? [livejournal.com profile] jennyo's Everyone-on-New-Caprica-gets-syphillis one, a whole slew of new-to-me fics by [livejournal.com profile] cannibalcake and the Roller Derby of Doom.

And I've finally caught up on the first week or two of the teeveez. So there are spoilers and stuff behind the cut.

Returning champs and new winners:

Chuck
This is the true dark horse contender of the season so far. I recorded this one on a whim, and the hubby and I just about died of hilarity and nerdish delight while watching (especially since S used to be a PC technician at Best Buy once upon a time, though he was never a spy that I am aware of...). Chuck is equal parts Jim Halpert and Jimmy Fallon with a hint of Tim Curry--I absolutely adore him. And Adam Baldwin is fabulous as always. This one is a keeper so far.

The Office
OMG!DWIGHT. Seriously. I love Dwight beyond reason. And as much as I adore the satisfaction of getting to see Jim/Pam finally in action, I totally <3 Dwight the most. On the whole, I'm really happy with the new season so far: just as many cringingly awkward moments and hilarious one-liners as I've come to expect. yay!

Smallville
This is one of the prettiest damn shows on the planet. And I am sooooooo glad that they finally have the special effects budget they deserve because Bizarro and Supergirl and Clark all deserve the lush visual representation they're getting on this show. And as a bonus, I have my very own live fanboy commentary from the Mr (who is only too happy to tell about the obscure city on Krypton that Kara refers to, or the secret fannish double-entrendes and references to comic lore that I might not get otherwise).
As of right now: I thought Lex's underwater scene was gorgeous. I loved Bizarro Clark hitting on Lois (really I love any excuse to have TW smirk and swagger like that: bring on the Red K Clark!). I want to know more about Chloe's magical regeneration/resurrection skillz! I'm bordering on being charmed/annoyed by the actress playing Supergirl. I like Lois more and more with each season. And I wish to god that Lana had just stayed fucking dead. For reals.

Supernatural
It's weird watching the show in real time after my marathon this summer. I'm feeling a teeny bit let down because I want MORE like RFN, but I'm trying to be patient. Must remind myself that the mysteries will continue to be fun and the boys will continue to be damn pretty, even if it's just once a week...

Razor Flashbacks
Have to admit I was a little squicked by Adama the supah-lovah (because I am resolutely not thinking about Bill saying something post-coitus that he has said numerous times to Kara in a fatherly and/or military context, and I am also resolutely not thinking about his attraction to yet another loud-mouthed, blond, hot-shot pilot...), and I was not particularly charmed by either actor. I had to giggle when the blond said "aboot". Canadian pilots FTW!
So. When I replay the scene in my head I'll just be smashing Kara and Lee's faces over theirs and imagining a fun mid-season-1 piloty bunk room frolick. *nods*

Bones
I loved Booth's spastic touchy-feelyness while trying to reconnect with Brennan. And the mysteries are just as fun as always. Hodgins/Angela are le awesome. That is all.

Maybes and when-I-have-time shows:

Heroes
I'm all about Hiro. And I'm intrigued about the new super-kids and Peter's amnesia. I can't wait to see Kristen Bell in episode #5! But I still don't love this show as much as I feel like I should. I feel like a bad sci-fi/superhero fan every time I admit that...

Pushing Daisies.
It was damn pretty. And it was pretty funny too. Definitely a bit of an Amelie knock-off, though not in a bad way. But I'm just not as drawn to it as some of the other new ones...

Reaper
I love the chubby side-kick! And Ray Wise as the devil is just awesome. I'm so-so on the lead guy, but Sock is in almost every scene so I'm hanging around for now.

Bionic Woman
I have to admit I haven't been able to watch all the way through any of the eps so far. I've either downloaded the Katee scenes or just fast-forwarded to them on my dvr. And DAMN but my girl is still just as fine and smoking hot as ever. But I'm not feeling the show as a whole. Which is sad cuz I want Katee to be super successful and all. Why can't she be THE bionic woman?!?

So, that's my recap.

Anyone that feels like posting LOLmacros of the aforementioned shows in the comments will get major love from me and possibly become my new hero. You can use the ROFLbot to create them...

I watched the first episode of Chuck and I did find it amusing but I haven't watched another and have to admit that I've already forgotten when its on.

I am enjoying the Office but its all for the Jim and Pam moments because I can not stand the Dwight storyline. Besides his random BSG references I really can't stand him and I know that I am in a serious minority, I know everyone loves him.

I laughed at the 'aboot' in the Razer flashback too. LOL! I was thinking the whole 'What do you hear' thing was more something we would relate to Adama and immediately know who he was then something he regularly says in bed. If he said it once 40 years ago to a chick he might not even remember that he did and then it makes it okay that he says it to Kara. I saw it more as a military thing then a post-coitus thing. I thought frak sounded awkward coming out of her mouth and she looked so 'now' and not 40 years ago but how would they show that its 'old'in a universe that we don't know that may well be years ahead of us.

I adore Booth and Bones together and Hodgins and Angela are pretty damn cute! Yay for one happy couple!!

I'm liking Heroes more this season.

Pushing Daisies is my new love and I can't get enough of it. I can't even explain why except that it is like nothing else and that works for me.

I've watched Reaper a few times and its fun, not sure if it will stick.

As a Katee fangirl I would have thought you'd be all over Bionic Woman. I haven't watched more than one episode yet and I do wish Katee was THE BW too.

:)

I'm still not sure why Chuck charms me so much, but it does (at least for now...heaven knows I am wayyyyyy fickle with new shoes *g*).

And I mainly love Dwight because he reminds me so painfully AND hilariously of a really alien guy that S used to work with. Uncanny similarities there...but you're right: Jim/Pam is intensely satisfying :D

I think I'm getting over the Papadama 'nothing but the rain' squick factor, and I shouldn't be complaining at all cuz hey, it's BSG and it's new! Mainly I just really miss Kara and Lee, and I want to see THEM instead so I'm pouting and nitpicking...

I'm still bewildered by why I don't like Bionic Woman more. It's KATEE! And she gets to vamp like crazy and be a total bad-ass. But apparently my extreme love for her is not enough to carry me through an entire episode of an otherwise mediocre show :(

Wow, that was a lot of babbling, LOL. In summary: yay for new teevee to wank about!

I'm a big Heroes fan, but I can see totally valid reasons why you'd feel the way you do. Don't feel bad!!!

Exactly! I mean it was cute and all... but all I could really think was... ew. He said that to Kara too.

Ya know I thought of this as well...but since his CO said it to him, I figure Adama says it to all his (favorite) pilots...military tradition and all. IDK but it didn't squick me like it did you guys.

And how bout those Adama Family Arms? *g*

I feel the same way about Heroes, and I think for me the problem is I haven't really connected with any of the characters. I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment that Heroes is all plot and no heart (and I think the relationships on the show are very important) but the characters aren't very well developed and always feel more like archetypes than actual people. As a result, I'm just not that attached to the show. It's a fun show, but if it starts to suck I will have no problem dropping it and watching something else.

At the end of the day everything pales in comparison to BSG. Where is everyone downloading these minisodes anyways?

Oh, totally--me too. I adore Hiro because he has so much enthusiasm about everything, but I don't really have any emotional POV characters for this show the way I do with other favorites. I think the way all the story arcs and superheroes intertwine is really cool conceptually, and I love the prettiness of the show, but I'm not really attached to any of the characters and their particular arcs.

At the end of the day everything pales in comparison to BSG.

*nods* This is a great truth.

If you still haven't gotten to see it, there are some streaming versions up on Galactica Sit Rep (http://galacticasitrep.blogspot.com/2007/10/global-flashbacks.html).

Ditto on your Razor thoughts!

And ditto on Bionic Woman. I haven't watched the second ep the whole way through, I only flicked forward to the Katee stuff. But when there are a few more eps I plan to watch a chunk and see if I can get into it. I'm up for 'shipping Sarah/Jae, though - they're very pretty.

I left on comment on your Adamas-are-lazy-lovers post but I think maybe LJ ate it. GRRRRRRR! Anyways, I agreed and it totally made me giggle (for Lee) and squick (for Papadama).

oooooooh, good plan. Let me know how that goes and I might try that instead of just watching the Katee scenes piecemeal the way I have been. I really WANT to like this show...

Oh, amen honey. The scene your icon is from was awesome. And I'm not above shipping Jaime/Sarah either...cuz the chemistry is definitely there ;)

stoopid lj! But yeah, it's a little amusing that they a lazyboyz!

I really WANT to like this show...

uh huh! We want teh Katee, we need teh Katee. Even if it's Bionic Katee! But at least we can screen cap the pretty if the show really does become unwatchable.

I think it's just that "Heroes" is totally about the story, and the characters are secondary to that - and ... even though I like almost all of the characters, there's no-one I just LOVE and feel compelled by. So for me, "Heroes" is sort of this mind-candy show where I can't think too much about it afterwards. In short, I feel the same way as you do about it!

That is pretty much how I feel about HEROES, REAPER, BIONIC WOMAN, CHUCK, 3O ROCK...hmm, I'd say most TV I watch other than BSG, FNL, GREY'S and TELL ME YOU LOVE ME...

True, but most shows I watch have at least one or two characters that I am emotionally invested in (whether they're substantial shows or mindless enjoyable fluff). Not all of them inspire the level of thought/meta/fannish-productivity that BSG does, but I'm used to feeling more attached to a show that I enjoy.

Wow. That's exactly it. I've been struggling to put into words my issues with "Heroes," because I want to love it, and I haven't been able to figure out what it is that keeps making me watch it and yet not want to think about any of the characters at all the moment they are off the screen. I have kept thinking - interesting stories, and I want to know what happens next, and Hiro's awesome, but...why is it not eating my brain like say BSG???

Thanks for figuring it out for me :)

(nods at all comments above)

I'm just commenting to jump on the bandwagon and get it off my own chest. I think "Heroes" is all yummy, chocolate-covered, shirtless-Peter goodness, but I don't deeply care about any of the characters. To me most of them just don't seem as complicated or morally gray as on other shows I love.

Also the cast is freaking HUGE, and for plot purposes that's awesome, but it's hard to pull that off without under-developing relationships and character growth.

Ironically, here is my Heroes Love! icon. I do enjoy the show a lot for the hour it's on.

*nodding too*

Actually I remember feeling this way during BSG 3.5 when the development of more and more b-level characters was kind of disrupting the arcs of the storyline as a whole and particularly the arcs of the more central/original characters. It's a logical progression for casts to grow larger as a show goes on, but it sucks when that happens at the expense of the plot's tightness!

Very well put. I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoy the intertwining plot lines and the cool details a lot, but there isn't any one character arc that really draws me in. And since that is usually what has motivated me to fangirl so many other shows/movies/books I'm not always sure how to relate to the show.

I am a bit ambivalent about Bionic Woman as well. I watched the first episode all the way through, but the parts I enjoyed the most involved Katee. Still need to watch episode 2. I will probably not record it and just watch Katee scenes online. And let me state once more that I'm so glad you're on the Supernatural bandwagon!
