Lolly lolly get your rec list here

Haven't contributed anything fun in a while but I've been reading/watching/lurking as time allows and now I have a Texas-sized rec list to share!!!

BSG:

One of my favoritest fangirls of all time, [livejournal.com profile] dionusia, really came through with the awesome crack, as per usual. Read her awesomecakes crackfic of Lee stripping during the season finale. MADE OF WIN.

The glorious and brilliant [livejournal.com profile] hobbitofkobol has produced two gems recently:
1 - the most sweaty arm-pr0n in one post since S3 on the algae planet: a Team Tahcco picspam for season 4.0. Just think about it y'all, all that gorgeous sweaty angst on the Demetrius, all the identity crises and mutinies and celebrations and fights? Helo/Anders FTW!!!
2 - A hilarious crossover vid using footage from the finale and the audio from "Where do we go from here?" (from Once More With Feeling)

Other Whedon-related awesomeness:

We have all seen the Dr. Horrible trailers, yes? If not, PLEASE DO SO IMMEDIATELY.

Also? I am still unreasonably excited about Dollhouse.

And more than a little sad that the Faith arc is over in the comics. That was my fave part of season 8 so far.

SPN and J2 AU's

Crackvids, y'all! SPN and HP crackvids no less. [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 has made a whole series of hilarious Schoolhouse Rock vids for SPN and HP fandoms. My absolute favorite is A Noun Is a Person, Place, or Thing (As Explained by Sam Winchester).

Everyone who has ever loved awesome slash must immediately go read this fab SPN/Iron Man crossover. Full of snarky banter and yummy smut. I <3 Tony Stark like crazy after reading this.

AND!!! all the recent bigbang J2 AU fics are just making me no end of happy. Ten loooooong and awesome fics listed here. I particularly love the humor of the summer camp AU, the crackiness of the seahorse AU, the shenanigans of the movie theater AU, and the romance of the bookstore AU. I'm also currently reading (and blushing like crazy) at nyxie's smut-tastic hot-for-teacher AU.

OH BOYS I LOVE YOU.

In books and reading-land

I finally got the trade paperback for the final Y The Last Man volume. OH YORICK. Damn, that may be my favorite graphic series of all time. Must read the whole series all over again now.

Also finished Hero by Perry Moore, which was better than I anticipated. At first I thought, who can go wrong with a gay teen superhero? I am SO the ultimate target audience for this book! But then it seemed like it was kind of slow-paced and about sports and daddy issues. Turns out I was WRONG and thank god I pushed on through because the book is complex and delightful and awesome.

However, City of Bones is not rocking my socks hardly at all. I am nearly finished and still pretty underwhelmed. Not all YA urban fantasy can be amazing, I know, but I'm still bummed.

Next in reading land: Cupid by Julius Lester, Devilish by Maureen Johnson, So Hard to Say by Alex Sanchez, the Marvel Civil War trade paperbacks, several Batman volumes and Planet Hulk.

Any recs for me? vids? slash? pilots? books? movies?

Darling! Missing you in Anaheim! I don't have any particular recs for you now, but I just scored stacks of books to read (yay car!). I don't think I'm quite at your level of fabulousness for book grabbing, but I did my best (personal high!).

Can't wait to hear all about your awesome books/swag!!!

YORICK! Eye mees yew! *pushes a reread of Y The Last Man to top of list*

Yeah, so I sorta really liked City Of Bones until the BOY HOWDY HELLO FICNESS of it became obvious. I mean, I love fanfic and all, but when thou artst writing a novel, please to be dispensing with the Old Fanfic Stand-byes. I still am enamored with parts of the book, but the fact that I felt like I was reading (granted, excessively well-written) fanfiction kinda killed the moment.

Also, when you get to the end, let me know what you thought of *drumroll* The Plot Development. I, for one, was not amused.

And, to end this novel of a comment, I need [livejournal.com profile] boom_queen time, and I need it STAT! When can we make that happen? (I will unfortunately be out of town this Friday, and I have to wtf!work on Saturday, so we need to be coordinating, you and I.)

My rec to you is the Books Of Pellinor by one Alison Croggon. I will lend them to you. Socks will be rocked.

Still not that crazy about City of Bones, but almost finished and then I will be onto better books! Oooooh, I like the sound of the Pellinor ones. yay for recs!!!

Need hanging out time tooooooooooo! Mebbe this Saturday? I'm also off on Wednesday. Call/text me and we'll figure it out :D

The picspam was awesome and cheery. Thank you!

Yay! Sweaty manflesh is nearly ALWAYS cheering :D

PS: icon-love!

thanks for the recommendations.

and I've got to say, I don't think your Dollhouse excitement is unreasonable. I am beyond obsessed with this show already, as if it is actually somewhere up in the range of BSG and all I've seen so far is one 2 minute trailer.

How do we go about making Whedon immortal so that we will have his shows forever???

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Dollhouse absolutely deserves every bit of pre-emptive squeeing, I agree :) Joss is the best!

[identity profile] chrryblssmninja.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Dollhouse is the only show I'm really looking forward to watching in the 2008-2009 season...

and it comes in midseason.

waah

I highly recommend Devilish - I finished it in one sitting.

Other recent YA picks of mine are Night Road by A.M. Jenkins (vampire road trip, off a rec from yalsa-bk) and Elizabeth Scott's Stealing Heaven (another yalsa-bk find, but this one because she sent my library a free copy).

Do you have a Shelfari for your library? I've been working with the teen volunteers to create ours. I'm not sure any of our patrons actually look at it - hopefully some will after our new website is uploaded and it's a featured link - but it sure is fun to play with.

Icon-love!

Halfway through Devilish now, and I'm totally digging it. And adding your other recs to my goodreads to-read list!

Hmmmm...never played with Shelfari. New toy, new toy!

Ohhhh it looks like you've got some interesting links here. I'll be sure to throw this in memories so I can come back and read some when I have more time.

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Hope you enjoy :D

[identity profile] prncssflutterby.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I was actually hoping to get to check these out this weekend but I barely had time online.

Hopefully I'll be able to check them out sometime this week.

Drive-by huggles!

Thanks for the rec, hon. You're one of my favoritest fangirls around too! :D

Hope you're hanging in there. Let me know if I can write you some more Galacticrack.
