BSG: 4.03 Six of One (but ALL of my brain...)
In case anyone was worried about my tendencies, this episode had me back in full on Kara!girl mode. Pretty much every emotion and action was experienced in terms of how it affected her, as per usual. I still luff my Anders to pieces but he wasn't getting much screen time in this one.
That scene at the beginning was some of the most amazing and intense acting by both Mary and Katee that I've ever seen. They both have an uncanny ability to portray incredible strength and power at the same time as vulnerability and pain.
What a risky move on Kara's part--but it's that same blend of cocky assurety and near death-wish that have made her such an effective hero and warrior in the past. And when the camera panned to where the shot had hit past her head, I loved the framed picture of A/R fractured with a hole in the center. I envision many angsty icons coming from that cap.
Speaking of A/R, leave it to Angeli to write an Adama/Roslin scene that had me actually really caring about each of them and their relationship. That scene where they just completely called each other on all their bullshit was awesome. No punches pulled on either side, which seemed really in character, and then each of them kind of broke down separately afterwards. I really loved Roslin calling Bill on his fear of losing people and how that affects all his decisions, and Roslin being afraid that her death will come too soon or have no meaning--OMG SO TRUE.
And then there was Lee/Kara kissage like almost never before! Damn, Angeli really is a softie, sweetheart shipper :) It was enough to rival the EoJ raptor kissing of awesomeness! Especially the kissing all around the face, WOW. I have a feeling that is the most shippy moment we're probably going to get for Kara/Lee for a loooooong time, so I'm storing up it's hot and tasty goodness for the inevitable lack of piloty interaction to come.
I don't want to neglect the handshake and hug just because the face-kissing was so awesome. It was a high quality hug, and the handshake was shot just like the make-up handshake in Captain's Hand. *sighs* Pilots just look damn good together on screen. *pets the pretty*
Though, what the hell is up with Lee just leaving while Kara is still in the brig and possibly facing imminent airlocking? WTF public defender? You care enough to cry and smooch her, but you're still running off to your new job? Half to admit I still teared up and was all happy for him at his amazingly honorable discharge ceremony. (I'm still trying to figure out why Adama let him go willingly, but I'm just rolling with that one too..).
Plus! The going-away ceremony afforded me the opportunity of seeing Anders in dress blues for the first time, and while I thought he looked good in a flight suit and tanks, HE LOOKS DAMN GOOD IN UNIFORM. Yum....

amaleka_crone pointed out how great his hair is right now and I wholeheartedly agree. Speaking of good hair, I love getting to see Tricia as a brunette for the new Six--she's even more stunning in a color closer to her natural shade! And half-naked pilots playing strip triad during Lee's drinking/going-away party...also yum. (strip triad fic anyone, yes/yes?)

At first I was so pissed at Helo and Adama for just carting her off the brig and cuffing her up, but by the end I was good with it. Particularly when Helo showed up to take her to the flight deck. I was cursing him to high heaven! But THEN, they're going to give her a ship and she is going to go on a separate journey (which, narratively speaking, I'm not sure if I'm excited for another split narrative, where half of the fleet is one place and the other is going somewhere else, but I'll hope for the best for now). And did I hear correctly? Is Helo going WITH HER on the trip? Helo/Kara=BFF OTP on the road again? *points at icon* Because that would be just about ten kinds of win. And who else gets to go on her crew? I'm so excited and curious!
Things I did NOT like:
WTF Tigh, just pimping Tory out to Baltar because she's the only chick Final Four so it's somehow okay to imply that she should 'get on her back' to get information. FUCK YOU tigh. I don't see why he couldn't just as easily have said "Chief and/or Anders, you are obviously half-gay so YOU go seduce Baltar" (though I love them to much to wish creepy sex on either of them either...)
AND THEN SHE DOES and it's the creepiest sex scene ever in the history of creepy sex scenes, and are they actually going to play it where Tory emotionally connects with Baltar because I don't buy it for a frakking second?!?
Sort of connected, but I actually liked it, the Baltar/head!Baltar scene was the only redeeming part of the whole Tory/Baltar clusterfrak. "Six? Is that you?" I LOVED IT.

The thing that pissed me off with the Tigh scene was that he was saying she didn't have to and then implying she should at the same time. It just seemed unnecessary, but it wasn't half as awful as her actually going AND DOING IT. Oh well. I'm definitely voting for less creepy sex next episode...

I'm with you on that, for sure. At least we knew that Lee actually GAVE a shit, though. Helo and Sam are all partying it up and it just felt a bit jarring and OOC for both. Basically I'm just going to assume all of Kara's loved ones knew that Adama was going to send Kara off on her own to find Earth, so they didn't need to be as concerned for her anymore.

it totally blew me away.
Adama/Roslin scene that had me actually really caring about each of them and their relationship.
I had a weird reaction to their scene. At first I thought Mary was acting out of character, much like she did under Olmos' direction in TaB (he wanted to push her character) but the scene went for so long that I kinda got used to it and then by the end when Bill was telling Laura she was afraid to die a meaningless death I was so sucked in that it got me all teary.
Though, what the hell is up with Lee just leaving while Kara is still in the brig and possibly facing imminent airlocking? WTF public defender? You care enough to cry and smooch her, but you're still running off to your new job?
I've read a few comments that extrapolate Lee must've known Kara wasn't going to be airlocked so he didn't think he was leaving her in danger. And maybe there was a deleted scene or something. Because it just doesn't gel that he would leave her in peril to go sit at a desk. It's all kinda messy and you could tell that he was trying to stuff her back in the 'friend box' and keep a distance. But realistically, Kara isn't his problem anymore. She's not his wife or lover and she's no longer his pilot. And even though the kiss reveals the truth about how he feels, he still leaves her in the cell to whatever fate befalls her while he pursues his new dream. It was a definite parting of ways and I think it shows that despite how he feels about her, rekindling their love affair is not something he wants to do or is prepared to do. I think if they meet again it will be the usual teasing/insults between friends (unless someone is on their deathbed) and both of them will keep their romantic feelings locked safely away where it's safe. Maybe the happiness for pilots is to know their love is a distant hopeful possibility. Reality for them hasn't been very pretty.

Maybe Tory thinks she has no value as a human being anymore and what does it matter if she screws a guy who repulses her? She knows she's a Cylon and maybe figures she'll treat her body as if it's less than.
So next week begins the separate story arcs of all the characters. Yet another season where tragic events of gigantic proportions will befall Kara while Lee has no clue - again. How original.

That made me so happy! I was so fierce, angsty, hungry, emotional, aggressive and sad! And Lee was actually opening up to Kara instead of shutting down. He told her how she always gets to him! The emo boy is growing up :)

So true she looks so much better that way verses being a bleach blond, when she's Head-Six. But maybe they do that icky wig so that she looks more like a ho. Personally I think it washes out her skin tone and dulls down her pretty and beautiful skin.
