Apparently I CAN win at fandom and school at the same time. Who knew!

I'm actually caught up on readings/teaching/tech-crap/work etc enough to justify the following extravagances:
  • Spent 9 more hours on the current vid project this week and it is currently with my beloved beta awaiting her feedback. Yayyyyyyyy for productivity! BSG+FotC owns my brain ;)
  • Posted the almighty crack!fic list which has more BSG crack than I ever knew existed (and more keeping popping up in the comments, w00t!)
  • Went to see HP5 in 3D at the IMAX _again_ with the Mr. last night! Had more time to truly appreciate the ginormous prettiness of the set/production quality on the huge-ass screen. And to lust after Sirius in his pin-striped velvet jacket of awesomeness.
  • Downloaded the entire VAST discography to get the albums I didn't already have (which I can upload some if anyone wants), as well as a bunch of study-friendly music like Royksopp and Telepopmusik
  • Spent the last three hours having one extended fangasm over new and new-to-me vids in sooooo many fandoms. So I bring rec's for all!
Equilibrium (You know, that poorly written but insanely pretty-looking dystopian sci-fi martial arts movie with my boyfriend Christian Bale...at any rate, apparently I fangirl this movie enough to LOVE these vids)
  1. Here by VAST - Kristin Harris.
This may be some of the most flawless video editing I've ever seen. She really gets both the movie and the song, and they dovetail perfectly. Awesome action, breath-taking angst and lots of highly pretty CBale.
  2. Touched by VAST - Kristin Harris.
Damn I love this song! This video is just as high-quality, but less action-oriented as it focuses on the shippy/emotional aspects of the movie. I can't believe how good this vidder is.
  3. Sweetest Perfection by Depeche Mode - Jacque.
Not quite as pretty/HQ cuz it's on YouTube, but this is another perfect pairing between the look/feel of the movie and this song about drug addiction/withdrawal.
Battlestar Galactica
  1. Falling from the Sky by VAST - [info]jarrow272 .
Damn this vid is awesome! It's a look at how Kara has failed many of the pilots in her life, herself included. The editing on the flying/action clips is just gorgeous. And, of course, the VASTness of it is quite kickass.
  2. Save Yourself by Stabbing Westward - [info]jarrow272 .
Such a powerful action and 'ship vid for Sharon/Kara. It revealed a lot of parallels in their arcs that I hadn't considered before, and plus the song just kicks ass!
  3. Goodies by Ciara - by [info]jarrow272 .
Another awesome Sharon/Kara vid. You guys really have to watch this just to see how beautiful and fun this pairing can be!
  4. 24 by Jem - [info]m_a_r_i_k_s .
A lovely and thoughtful Kara angst!vid that considers what she was thinking/feeling before her death.
  5. I Fell In Love With a Starship Trooper by Sarah Brightman - [info]nnaylime .
My favorite new crack!vid. I almost never watch Adama/Roslin vids but this song just kills me with it's hilarious 70s/disco-fied beat and editing on the vid is priceless. Totally hilarious!
  6. The Look by Roxette - [info]brokenmnemonic .
An ode to the many ways in which Kara Thrace kicks ass. Because she does. And the infectious humor and energy of this song are perfect!
  7. Violent Pornography by System of a Down - Martouf Marty (rec'd to me by [info]nebakanezer ).
This is somewhere just short of crack, but it's pretty freakin hilarious either way. The vidder's tagline for it is "sex, violence and cylons".
Veronica Mars
  1. Cool Rider from Grease 2 - [info]dualbunny .
Weevil/Logan squeeeeeeeeeeee!. And because this is dualbunny the vid is flawless and hilarious and utterly made of win.
Supernatural
  1. Fault Line by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - halcyon_shift.
The first time I heard this song after watching all of SPN, I thought "wow, that's perfect; I should totally vid that". Then lo and behold, it has been done and done well.
  2. One Week by Barenaked Ladies - zeelee.
I'm not quite sure if this counts as slash or crack, but it's funny and fast-paced, and it put a big ole grin on my face when I watched it. Pretty boys and awesome editing!

In summary...favorite new-to-me vidder of the week: [profile] jarrow272 !  So much pretty (it takes a damn good vidder to make beautiful AND believable femmeslash vids), and he has excellent taste in teh hawt womens, and there are a lifetime of awesome vid recs on his website.

And favorite new-to-me author of the week: [personal profile] cynthia_arrow ! Seriously y'all, so much awesome slash and other writings to be had at her journal: CW RPS (oh the prettiness of the boys of SPN and SV, and because I can't swing Wincest but I'm all over J2, and Clex!), Weevil/Logan (why don't more people write awesome, realistic W/L?), the aforementioned Sam/Lee of WIN!, deliciously hot angst Kara/Anders (cuz I can't get enough of Sam lately), and Gaius math!crack. So much to love!

I didn't know you read J2!!! :D

It's a recent development ;) I just barely mainlined all of S1 and S2 last month and now I'm branching out into fic. There's a bewildering amount of SPN fic out there though! Point me in the right direction? Any fic/author/comm rec's?

Have YOU written SPN and/or J2? Cuz I think I might die of joy...

[identity profile] rejeneration.livejournal.com 2007-09-09 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my Gosh, sweetie! I wouldn't even know where to start, but... -grinning- Yeah, I've written J2! Wanna see? Be sure to ignore the ... -cough- Sam/Dean. It's all clearly labeled.

Holy shit! YAYYYYYYYYYYYY!

*so much happy dancing*

And who knows: I love your writing enough that you could probably convince me about Sam/Dean too :D

[identity profile] rejeneration.livejournal.com 2007-09-09 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, Sam and Dean are like my greatest temptation. I am so in love writing them together... it's not even funny! Special Hell holds a wonderful, wonderful place for me.

Now that I know, I shall add you to my s00per sekrit SPN filter!

Awesomeness! w00t for Jen!fic!!!

[identity profile] cynthia-arrow.livejournal.com 2007-09-09 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Aww... You're pretty awesome yourself. ♥

Seriously, thanks. :) I often wonder if people like my penchant for writing in random and multiple fandoms, or if it's obnoxious.

And I didn't know you read J2! I'm hoping my muse for Supernatural (the non-Wincesty variety) and the CW boys comes back when the new season starts.

I often wonder if people like my penchant for writing in random and multiple fandoms, or if it's obnoxious.

I love it! Especially since your tastes seem to coincide with mine quite often :)

And I really envy the ability to think/create in several fandoms. BSG in the first fandom I haven't been a total lurker in, let alone inclined towards creative output. But now that I've got the vidding/fic bug, I have a feeling it will follow to future fandoms.

I just started reading J2, and really I haven't read that much yet. I watched both seasons of the show last month and when I did a quick LJ search for J2/SPN fic I was immediately overwhelmed at the quantity of comm's out there.

But your RPS was just DELICIOUS. Any rec's of more J2 for me?

I really think with fanfic (and probably vidding, too), there's a big learning curve. The first couple of fandoms I wrote in, I was scared as hell. I would only write what I was really, really comfortable with, pairing wise. Some people can't wrap their brains around more than one fandom or OTP at once (which is not me making fun of them; it's just a fact of life), but if you've got a brain like mine that is schizophrenic delights in variety a little more than it clings to the familiar, you can't help but get restless and start to see fic possibilities everywhere.

I also think the more fanfic you write, the less scared you become about writing fanfic in general, even new things, maybe because you know how the process works. At least that's been my experience. (BSG being my...*counts on fingers*...fourth "main" fandom to write in, whereas I've dipped my toes into probably a dozen or so.)

/thus endeth the bossy-sounding ramble

You know, SPN fandom is HUGE, and I've never done more than skirt around it, for that reason. I'm woefully under-read, especially with J2, especially lately. Let me ask my flist who the sure-fire dependable writers are. Maybe that'll help the both of us. :)

I certainly feel this way about vidding at this point. EVERY show/movie and pretty much every song I listen to now is immediately run through a 'could I vid this?' filter in my brain ;)

The first couple of fandoms I wrote in, I was scared as hell. I would only write what I was really, really comfortable with, pairing wise

I think I'm still definitely at this point with fic. I feel a lot more vulnerable about stuff I've written than I do about posting vids. The feedback has a bigger impact and I'm much more nervous before posting. Hopefully that'll change the longer I try my hand at it.

Exactly. Kind of intimidating...But I have faith in the power of f-list recs :)

Um, I'm a little in love with the Equilibrium vids. Guh! The Bale is sooooo pretty, and that movie is like my all-time, number one favorite cheese-fest! Such well done stuff! Thanks a bunch.

And I love you for fangirling my sister! I've been hoping our fun BSG community would embrace her 'cause she's the complete and utter shit. The quality of writing she puts out is amazing, and I have no idea how she has the time with her schedule. Oh, crap, I think I'm fangirling her too, but I've had years of practice looking up to my big sis. Hope that was mushy enough. :D

Um, I'm a little in love with the Equilibrium vids

Yeah, me too. I think I've watch "Here" about a dozen times this weekend. So. Good.

she's the complete and utter shit

I'm totally with you on that one. Your big sis kicks ass. Seems to run in the family...

cool gun fights

gotta respect the originality of Equilibrium's gun-fu... plus there's an admirable amount of underlying meaningfulness for substance's sake

I am only just now finding this through tags at http://del.icio.us/veni_vidi_vids and I am SO flattered! Thank you so much for the recs and compliment! I really appreciate it!
