BSG 4.01: The Awesomeness Cannot Be Contained

1. Friday nights are sooooo much better than Sunday nights because I can watch and squee with buddies. Watching with buddies is sooooo much better than watching by myself!

2. Holy frakking shit that was awesome!

Teh recap:

I think I've officially become as much of an Anders!girl as I am a Kara!girl. When did that happen? I was just as emotionally invested in everything that happened to him and so unbelievably delighted to see his character getting so much plot and attention.

Favorite Sam moments: The eye-scan thing was insane and awesome! The freak-outs with his fellow final fours! The half-hug brush-off from Kara when she got out of her viper just killed me (especially compared to the amazing hug she gave Lee)! And then the gut-wrenching tenderness and pain of the memorial hall scene with Kara where he says he'd still love her as a cylon and she says she wouldn't--gahhhhhhhhhhh!

Also! The little intimate eye glance thing between Lee and Anders when they first realized Kara didn't know how long she'd been gone. IT'S BECAUSE OF THE SEX, PEOPLE. The slashy subtext is still there between them loud and proud!!!

Speaking of Lee: damn he looks good as a civvie! I was thinking I would miss him a flight suit but he looked so good with the scruff and the sweater and it was all just too yummy for words. I loved the scene with him and his dad in the briefing room where they're trying to process how they feel about Kara, and Lee pretty much says he would ALSO love Kara even if she were a cylon. My girl has the bestest boy-toys evar!

Why was Lee allowed to be around for all the important conversations about Kara and the fleet, etc. when he is no longer a military or civilian official? I get why his character was there, because he knows Kara and he witnessed her death, but wouldn't his security clearance have been revoked or something?

And the Lee/Kara vibe was on strong for this whole episode. That hug at the beginning was very intense and intimate and Home-like, and Lee basically pledged his devotion to Kara regardless of her cylon status to his dad and the president.

(How can I be so shippy about both Kara/Anders and Kara/Lee AND Lee/Sam? Oh my OT3, how you like to frak with my brain!)

But WTF is my girl thinking going all rambo on Sam and the guards and charging in on the president with a gun? Bzuh? To be continued=my brain falling out!!!

There are so many little moments that I loved that I'm forgetting about. When Sharon walked up during the Tyrol/Anders peptalk and asked who else Anders would be if not himself. When Tigh freaked out and fantasy-killed Adama. When Baltar prayed for that little kid (votes on whether he knew everyone was listening? I thought he was putting on a show but the Mr and [livejournal.com profile] amaleka_crone but thought it was a genuine prayer...). When Baltar's throat was slit and he was talking in his low sexy Aerilon accent again. When Gaeta got all huffy with Kara. All of Tigh's big-one-eyed 'woah' faces. And so many more that I can't think of!

In conclusion, I love my show to itty bitty pieces and I'm so damn happy it's back on the air!!!

I'm so bummed we didn't get to meet up! We'll have to make it work sometime this season though. Two and a half hours early and they were sold out. *shakes head*

I was saying how despite the serious subject matter, this episode is probably the funniest one they've ever had. Baltar was a frakking hoot!

RIGHT! OMG! I love Anders to itty bitty little pieces this season - I don't know when it started but I just can not get enough of him!

eta: i totally agree with you about the triangle - no matter what way it goes kara/lee, kara/sam, sam/lee..i am alllllll good :)

[identity profile] pataka02.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
When Sharon walked up during the Tyrol/Anders peptalk and asked who else Anders would be if not himself.

Hee! I loved that. Suddenly picturing "How to Deal With Being a Cylon 101" taught by Sharon Agathon.

I kind of loved how Kara's all "I need to find Roslin," and Sam's like "You can't! How's that even possible?" and then BAM! She takes down the guards and Sam in the process. Poor Sam. He needs lots of hugs after this ep... and possibly a cookie. He was the one FF who seemed to be having the most trouble accepting himself as a Cylon. And Kara didn't help matters...

[personal profile] nebakanezer 2008-04-05 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
That was one frakking good episode! The eye thing with Anders was great! Did you end up going to the Alamo? My boss' husband is in Austin right now for an architecture seminar thingy and I told her to tell him, but I thought it was the Alamo Brew Pub, I forgot what [livejournal.com profile] amaleka_crone told me it was. And he went into an Alamo Pub or something and they didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Oops! LOL Anyway back to the show...
Baltar is creepee and I don't like him, I thought it was all staged, he is after all ALWAYS looking out for #1 and I don't think that will ever change. So it was all a show and how lucky for him that kid got better because it served his purpose nicely, Bah!!

I was all set to hate civilian!Lee but damn he did look hot. Maybe it wont be so bad after all. He will be further away from Dee and that is a good thing. I forgot to look for his ring, did you notice it?

I was thinking about how convenient it was to have THREE cylons in on the Adama, 'Anyone could be one' speech. Chief makes sense because of the viper, Tigh I guess, eh he didn't really need to be there, but that's ok. Tory didn't really NEED to be there and Lee had no purpose at all. So that seemed a little staged to me.

I've already watched it twice and I still can't really believe I get to watch 9 more in a row. Sweet!

[identity profile] gypsy-sally.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
YES to all! But we already talked it all out so I'll just tell you about my trip from hell home.

I almost got in two accidents. Because of the FRAKKING BULLSHIT that is the Texas Relay party on 6th. They had blocked off all of the exits so people were sitting in long lines trying to get back into traffic, because there wasn't ANY warning that the off ramps were closed.

Also, there was the whole 70 to zero traffic stall-age at somewhere around the Dean Keaton exit. Also because of the relay party thing. It smelled like burned rubber for MILES, dude. MILES.

THEN you have drunk thugs going 100, zipping in and out of lanes, and generally being a menace.

At least next Friday it will just be your regular Friday night drunken 6th street crowd. Those assholes I can handle.

AHHHHHHHBSGAWESOMESAUCE!!!!!

[identity profile] lunar47.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I frakking loved the Anders/cylon raider moment. In fact I agree with you that I'm totally into anders at the moment. His parts in this ep were awesome.

I am a fan of the Kara going badass, even though she took out sam too. It still looked really cool.

And on a completely shallow not episode related note...I love that Leoben is back in the beginning cylon credits :)

[identity profile] cynthia-arrow.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
I think I've officially become as much of an Anders!girl as I am a Kara!girl.

*beams*

Anyway, I don't think I have to review now. You said exactly what I would have, esp re: the awesome eye scan, the slashy subtext (in the Sam/Tyrol too?), hotass civvie!Lee, the K/L vibe like in 'Home,' the awesomeness of his blind belief in her, the OT3 goodness, the WTF?Kara. All of it.

So glad it's back. *nods*

[identity profile] supershineygirl.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
*flails* I have no words for the awesomeness that was this episode. I was into it that I wasn't even watching the time and then it stopped and I was wahhh it's over already. Poor Sam Kara just knocked his ass out and brushed him off. First she had the hug of death with Lee and then she told him that regardless of his love if he was a toaster she'd kill his ass and then she knocked him out. Notice how when she talks about the people that care about he she always names him last? "I would have thought the Old Man, Lee or even you Sam. Would have taken it down." About her pic on the memorial wall.

And Anders in the viper with the raider *ee* it all scanned him and then Sam's eye blinked red (reminded me of morse code) and then the raider and all the other cylons left. It was so Anders that made them leave. Guess since the raiders and walking toaster aren't verbal they are allowed to know the final 5.

I don't think that Baltar knew the others were awake when he started to pray, as the woke up as he was praying. I think that he was just overcome with self loathing.

It'll be interesting to see the angst the final four of five go through dealing with their secret identities.

Also I think that Kara got to earth, like the original Starbuck did in the original series with those crystal and white people who rescued him and then gave him the knowledge of how to find earth or was it revive him, hmmm

Anyway I think that some entity planted the knowledge in Kara's head. Kinda the wormhole knowledge in Crichton's brain in Farscape. It's buried in her subconscious and she can only interpret it as intuition.

Is it next Friday yet?

[identity profile] vash137.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, Kara's so not a Cylon. She went through a wormhole which can easily explain the time discrepancy, and it's pretty apparent that divine intervention (from whatever sources) are at work in this series. That said, the scene from the trailer where Adama slugs her, now I know where it comes from--oh so much love!

I agree on Baltar too. It's so easy to forget that he does have feelings of guilt and self loathing (and generally a level of depth when he's forced to slow down enough). Like in my favorite Baltar emo scene, with Gina in Adm. Kane's brig, and him having that single tear when he's talking about how he loved a cylon who looked just like her.

Can't wait for next Friday either.

[identity profile] ohhellsyeah.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
In conclusion, I love my show to itty bitty pieces and I'm so damn happy it's back on the air!!!
A-freaking-men!

I loved all of it. The Baltar stuff. The Final Five Stuff. The Lee and Kara stuff.

I thought Baltar was being genuine. I don't he felt comfortable in the cult at all and was in no way trying to impress anyone.

Kara telling Sam she would shoot him if she thought he was a Cylon hurt my heart. Poor Sam!

[identity profile] millari.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
This ep made me love Anders in a way I haven't since the Caprica resistance arc. He's is so frakking solid, even when he's totally about to lose his shit. I mean, his pep talk to Kara? It about made me want to tear my heart out it was so understanding, so loving. (Although I fear that given he's a Cylon, it could also be a little self-serving.)

It reminded me of how I felt about him when he fell off that Viper, speaking of the slashy subtext, btw. :)

Having said that, I lurved Lee's hug. It had all the uninhibited ferocity of an eight-year-old.

They did keep it rather ambiguous, but I'm being cautiously optimistic that he didn't know they were listening, and it was as genuinely repentant as Baltar is capable of. I'm not sure how much that is yet, even after 3 seasons. But I take the very next scene where he's like Oh really? Well, the kid's not any frakking better, is he? as evidence that it may actually have been genuine, because otherwise, if he was just in stone cold manipulation mode, he would have encouraged SmiteThem!Girl in her "We were all impressed with the way you prayed for Derek, Gaius" thinking.

Btw, did you by any chance think that Miss Smite Them With A Crowbar was made of total crazy religious fervor win, and vaguely reminiscent of Season 1 Head!Six?

[identity profile] alissabobissa.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I love my show to itty bitty pieces and I'm so damn happy it's back on the air!!!
Hell yeah! Yay show!

My girl has the bestest boy-toys evar!
Such a lucky bitch she is. That's why I'll love her if she's a Cylon too. :)

wouldn't his security clearance have been revoked or something?
Yeah, don;t know about that one, but I have the feeling they wouldn't have been able to keep him away.

And the Lee/Kara vibe was on strong for this whole episode.
Definitely. *happy sigh*

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! (sorry, I'm finding it difficult still today to contain my glee)

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey Steph--I hope you had a blast at the Alamo anyway! And we're all for trying again next week (and every week after that...). Hopefully the crowds will die down a bit now that the whole premiere hype is over ;)

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Anders to itty bitty little pieces this season - I don't know when it started but I just can not get enough of him!

Me too me too! I'm so excited for him to have his own well-developed character arc and not just be Mr. Thrace. Between being a Final Four and being a nugget, in addition to the new marriage 'complications' with Kara, he's going to be such a frakking interesting character and I LOOOOOOOVES HIM!!!

And yay for the almighty OT3--seriously, I'm fascinated by all three and any/all relationship permutations and interactions possible. Best triangle evar!

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Suddenly picturing "How to Deal With Being a Cylon 101" taught by Sharon Agathon.

Totally dude--that's hilarious! And later on, when/if Athena does figure out what's up with the Final Four, that will be some pretty fascinating stuff.

I'm baking poor Anders a whole damn sympathy CAKE for this week, because he's going to be just one big pile of woobie and self-doubt/loathing, and Kara's definitely not helping!

Though my girl has got issues of her own right now so I'm not really holding it against her.

Damn what an awesome episode! It still has my brain all spinny and excited :)

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved the eye thing with Anders so much. Possibly my favorite part of the ep. Definitely the coolest sci-fi detail.

We couldn't get into the Alamo because it sold out THREE HOURS beforehand (WTF!) but we watched it on the unnecessarily large teevee at my casa--me, Sam and Megan.

Haha, no it's the Alamo Drafthouse (though brew pub is a reasonable approximation *g*)!

Baltar was totally creepy and I TOTALLY thought it was staged--he is always playing every public moment for maximum effect. If it was a real prayer, why wouldn't it have been an internal/fantasy thing in his head with dream!six?

Civvie!Lee looked so good honey, seriously: SO GOOD. That ribbed sweater was just yum, and the scruff was ALL GOOD, and I even liked his silly flippy hair. Bamber why must you be so damn adorable?

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, we almost got run over twice yesterday and once today by stupid m-frakkers on 35. I hate car shows. Hate them!

Also: please to not get killed driving home, kthnx. Next Friday is so on!!! Our show is 100% AWESOMECAKES.

PS: S kept gushing about funny and awesome you are to watch teevee with, and I got to be all like 'duh, that is why she is my fangirl bff!', and it was adorable and you are made of win. That is all.

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Anders is totally made of win right now :)

*smishes my favorite final four frak-up*

And definite 'yay' for Leoben back in the opening credits. I hope he shows up on the show itself again soon!

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, K--you don't even know. I totally experienced this entire ep through Sam's POV, and it was only after the fact that I started thinking about Kara and her actions/perspective. It was crazy. And awesome.

*luffs my anders to pieces*

So glad it's back too! Happy dancing galore!!!

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so with you on the 'poor sam' for all the things you mentioned, and particularly for that point about naming him last--I hadn't even thought about it but she TOTALLY did that. Hugged him last, mentioned him last--poor Sam is like an afterthought for her right now.

I'm really curious about how the raider could sense who/what Anders is but the humanoid cylons can't/haven't. I hope they spell that out a little more explicitly.

I'm SO excited for the final-four angst over the next several episodes. I'm really invested in each of their experiences, and their fear of being activated as sleepers. It's gonna be freakin fascinating!

Interesting idea about how Kara got to Earth and doesn't have the memory, just the intuition, of how to get back there. I could totally buy into that theory. You're such a smarty pants Sage!

I'm seriously bouncing with excitement for next Friday. Can't wait!

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for the unabashed BSG-love!!! I'm still basking in the glow of this fan-frakking-tastic episode :D

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
This ep made me love Anders in a way I haven't since the Caprica resistance arc. He's is so frakking solid, even when he's totally about to lose his shit.

Totally dude. He's so capable of being a really engaging character when they give him the screen time and character development to back it up! And he is seriously a rock of awesomeness and support--even if the memorial hallway peptalk was kind of feeling Kara out for how she would react to him being a cylon, he still meant the unconditional love and support he was offering her.

Slashy subtext pwns my brain--and Sam seems to attract the subtext very easily ;)

Lee's bear hug was so emotionally satisfying! He has been so restrained and guarded with Kara at times in past seasons, and then completely lost his shit at stuff that I think wasn't really worth it, so to see him completely embrace Kara, to cry at the relief of hugging her, was incredibly vindicating. Made me love Lee all over again in a way that I've been somewhat begrudging about lately.

"Miss Smite Them With A Crowbar" is the best epithet ever! LOL!

[identity profile] boom-queen.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't ever both trying to contain the glee around me--you know my brain is just pretty much full of incoherent squee right now!

[identity profile] supershineygirl.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
^^IconLOVE^^ *g*

I think the humanoid cylons can't sense the four because they are programmed not to think about them. Like the 6 in the cell said. But the none humanoid ones can because they can't talk kinda like a dog can tell his owner. Also didn't the humanoid cylons say something about them not being as intelligent or something as them when Baltar was on the basestar. Like they don't have independent reasoning? Ack idk.

Hmm I just thought of something, for Kara it's been a few hours and when she left she and Anders were split up and she was all kinda crazy. So for her she's still treating him like she did before Maelstrom. Where as for the rest of them it's been months.

I wonder how she's going to react to all the changes in her guys. Cuz to her it probably seems overnight. I mean Lee and Sam are defiantly different people as they've gone through a ton of crap since she left.

An an Ander's has been sexin it up with the ladies and getting his drunk on and flying. Not to mention HE'S A TOASTER.

It's like she's getting thrown in bizarro world lol

Okay I'll stop now as I could go on and on and on my friends. *whoops sorry about that hope the tune didn't get into your head :p *

It Needs to be Friday 9 days in a row!

[personal profile] nebakanezer 2008-04-19 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved the eye thing with Anders so much. Possibly my favorite part of the ep. Definitely the coolest sci-fi detail. Totally!!

Lee did look good in the sweater last week but I wasn't as impressed with him in a suit last night. I don't really find dress suits to be that attractive, I much prefer fighter pilot suits. :)

I'm bored with civic!Lee and I want pilot!Lee back. *sigh* Seems that ain't gonna happen though...
