It was RDM grabbing an extra jumbo bag of angst and adding two pilots, then shaking it up until harsh words and awkward reactions came out.
Good call. I think it was definitely going for maximum angst, and not so much for clarity or flow.
I'm looking forward to the DVD too. More action/flying and pilots scenes to add to the clip library=YAY!
